පළාත් සභා සහ පළාත් පාලන ආයතන මහජන නියෝජිතයන්ගෙන් තොරව නිලධාරී පාලනය යටතේ පවත්වාගෙන යාම ජනතාවගේ මූලික අයිතිවාසිකම් උල්ලංඝනය කිරීමක් බව හිටපු මැතිවරණ කොමසාරිස් මහින්ද දේශප්‍රිය මහතා අවධාරණය කරයි. මාධ්‍ය හමුවකට එක්වෙමින් ඒ මහතා මේ බව සඳහන් කළේය. පළාත් සභා මැතිවරණය ප්‍රමාද වීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් අදහස් දක්වමින් ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේ, මහජන නියෝජිතයන් නොමැතිව පාලන කටයුතු සිදු කිරීම ජනතා අයිතිය උල්ලංඝනය කිරීමක් බවට ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨාධිකරණය විසින් ද මීට පෙර තීන්දුවක් ලබා දී ඇති බවයි. "නිලධාරී පාලනය කිසිසේත්ම මහජන නියෝජිතයන්ගේ පාලනයට සමාන කළ නොහැකියි. මොකද නිලධාරීන් ජනතාවට වගකීමට බැඳී නැහැ. නමුත් දේශපාලන නියෝජිතයන් වරින් වර ජනතාව හමුවට ගොස් ජනවරම ලබාගත යුතු නිසා ඔවුන් ජනතාවට වගකීමට බැඳී සිටිනවා," යැයි දේශප්‍රිය මහතා මෙහිදී පැවසීය. ආණ්ඩුක්‍රම ව්‍යවස්ථාවට අනුව මධ්‍යම රජයේ බලය පළාත්වලට විමධ්‍යගත කිරීම අත්‍යවශ්‍ය කරුණක් බවත්, ඒ සඳහා මහජන නියෝජිතයන් තෝරා පත් කර ගැනීම කඩිනමින් සිදු කළ යුතු බවත් ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය. එළඹෙන සැප්තැම්බර් 15 වන දිනට යෙදෙන ජාත්‍යන්තර ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදී දිනයට පෙර හෝ මෙම මැතිවරණය පවත්වන දිනය ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කරන ලෙස ඔහු රජයෙන් සහ සියලු දේශපාලන පක්ෂවලින් ඉල්ලා සිටියේය. Former Election Commissioner Calls for Timely Local Government Elections Mahinda Deshapriya, the former Election Commissioner, has raised concerns over the absence of elected representatives in local government bodies, labeling the ongoing bureaucratic management as a violation of the fundamental rights of the populace. He emphasized this point while addressing a media briefing. Commenting on the delay of local council elections, Deshapriya highlighted that the Supreme Court previously ruled that governing without public representatives constitutes an infringement on the rights of the people. "Bureaucratic governance can never equate to elected representatives' governance. Officials lack accountability to the public; however, political representatives are obligated to engage with the people regularly and maintain their accountability," he stated. Deshapriya further stressed the necessity of decentralizing central government powers to local authorities, insisting that the swift election of public representatives is crucial for this process.
