ගිනිගත්හේන බ්ලැක්වෝටර් වතුයායේ වතු කම්කරුවන් ගිනිගත්හේන නාවලපිටිය ප්‍රධාන මාර්ගයේ බ්ලැක්වෝටර් වතුයායට පිවිසෙන බගතොලුව ප්‍රදේශයෙන් ප්‍රධාන මාර්ගයෙන් අවහිර කර උද්ගෝෂණයක නිරතවිම හේතුවෙන් එම මාර්ගයෙන් ගමනා ගමනය පැයක පමණ කාලයක් ඇනහිට තිබුණි . එම වතුයාය හරහා මහවැලි ගගට ජලය ගලා බසිනා බ්ලැක්වෝටර් ඔය පිටාර ගැලීම නිසා නිවාස 24 කට අයත් සාමාජිකයන් 100 දෙනෙකු පමණ වසර 40 ක් පමණ කාලයක් දැඩි ලෙස පීඩාවට පත් වෙමින් සිටින බවත් , බ්ලැක්වෝටර් ඇළ අසළ තම නිවාස ඉදි කර තිබෙන නිසා ඒ වෙනුවට එම වතුයායෙම වෙනත් ස්ථානයක අලුතින් නිවාස ඉදි කර දෙන බවට වතුකරය නියෝජනය කල දේශපාලඥයන් අවස්ථා ගණනාවකදී පොරොන්දු වුවත් එම පොරොන්දු මෙතෙක් ඉටු කර නොදීම හමුවේ තමන් තව දුරටත් පීඩාවට පත් වන බවයි උද්ගෝෂණයේ නිරතව සිටි බ්ලැක්වෝටර් වතුයායේ වතු කම්කරුවන් කියා සිටියේ . පසුගිය දිනවල ඇදහැලුණු අධික වර්ෂාව හේතුවෙන්ද පවුල් 24 කට අයත් සාමාජිකයන් එම වතුයායේ ආරක්ෂිත ස්ථානයක තාවකාලිකව රදවා ඇති බවත් , මෙයට කඩිනමින් විසදුමක් ලබා දෙන ලෙසට බල කරමිනුයි එම වතුයායේ වතු කම්කරුවන් උද්ගෝෂණයේ නිරත වුයේ . ප්‍රධාන මාර්ගය අවහිර කරමින් එම වතුයායේ වතු කම්කරුවන් උද්ගෝෂණය කිරිම හමුවේ ගිනිගත්හේන පොලිසියේ නිළධාරින් එම ස්ථානයට ගොස් මාර්ගය අවහිර නොකරන ලෙසට කල ඉල්ලීමක් මත පොලිසිය සහ උද්ගෝෂකයන් අතර දැඩි උණුසුම් තත්වයක් ඇති විය . වතුකම්කරුවන්ගේ ගැටළුවට විසදුමක් ලබා දීමට වග කිය යුතු අංශ සම්බන්ධ කර දෙන බවට ගිනිගත්හේන පොලිසියේ නිළධාරින් පොරොන්දු වීමෙන් පසු උද්ගෝෂණයේ නිරත සිටි පිරිස හමුවේ පැවසීමෙන් පසු උද්ගෝෂණය නතර කිරිමට එම වතුයායේ වතු කම්කරුවන් පියවර ගැනින . ගිනිගත්හේන බ්ලැක්වෝටර් වතුයායේ වතු කම්කරුවන්ගේ පීඩාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් සොයා බැලිමට (05) දින නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්‍රික් සංවර්ධන කමිටුවේ සභාපති සහ නුවරඑලිය දිස්ත්‍රික් පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී මංජුල සුරවීරආරච්චි මහතා එම වතුයායට ගොස් පීඩාවට පත් වතුකම්කරුවන් සමග සාකච්ඡා කර කඩිනමින් ඉඩමක් සොයාගෙන වත්මන් රජය යටතේ අලුතින් නිවාස ඉදි කර දෙන බවට පොරොන්දු විය . අලුතින් නිවාස ඉදි කරන තෙක් යලිත් බ්ලැක්වෝටර් ඔය පිටාර ගැලුවහොත් , පීඩාවට පත් ජනතාවට ගිනිගත්හේන ශ්‍රී අභිනවාරාම විහාරස්ථානය වෙත යන ලෙසද මන්ත්‍රීවරයා පීඩාවට පත් ජනතාවගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටියහ . Protests Erupt Over Housing Crisis at Blackwater Estate in Ginigathena A protest ensued at the Blackwater Estate, located in Ginigathena, blocking the main road from Nawalapitiya. The disruption lasted approximately one hour, as workers voiced their anger over their current housing situation. The estate, which lies along the Mahaweli River, has faced serious repercussions from soil erosion, which has endangered the homes of around 100 families. For the last 40 years, these families have lived in jeopardy, with promises from politicians to provide new housing options on alternative sites going unfulfilled, leading to increased frustration among the workers. Recently, families affected by heavy rains have sought refuge at a temporary shelter within the estate. Protesters are demanding swift action to resolve their plight, indicating that failure to do so would leave them vulnerable for the foreseeable future. As tensions escalated, police officers approached the scene, emphasizing the importance of maintaining traffic flow and urging the demonstrators not to obstruct the road further. This exchange sparked a heated confrontation between the police and the protesters. Subsequent assurances from Ginigathena police officials to engage relevant authorities in resolving the workers’ concerns led to a decision to cease protest activities for the time being, as the workers expressed willingness to take further steps should their situation remain unaddressed. In an effort to assess the ongoing distress faced by the laborers at the Blackwater estate, the Chairman of the Nuwara Eliya District Development Committee, MP Manjula Suravirachchi, visited the site. He pledged to find a solution quickly, with plans to arrange for new housing under the current government. The workers have been advised to seek shelter at the Sri Abhinavaramaya temple until suitable housing can be constructed to prevent further hardship stemming from potential future disasters. *Note: In case of any discrepancy between the Sinhala and English versions, the Sinhala version shall prevail.
