බන්ධනාගාර තුළ මෑතකදී වාර්තා වූ නොසන්සුන්කාරී තත්ත්වයන් සහ ගැටුම් පාලනය කිරීමේ කඩිනම් පියවරක් ලෙස, මෑතකදී විශ්‍රාම ගිය සන්නද්ධ හමුදා සාමාජිකයන් 1,000ක් බන්ධනාගාර නියාමකවරුන් ලෙස බඳවා ගැනීමට රජය තීරණය කර ඇති බව Sunday Times පුවත්පත වාර්තා කරයි. බන්ධනාගාර පද්ධතියේ ආරක්ෂාව තහවුරු කිරීම සඳහා ගෙන ඇති මෙම තීරණයට අමතරව, දිවයින පුරා පිහිටි බන්ධනාගාර 32කම විශේෂ කාර්ය බලකා ඒකක ස්ථාපිත කිරීමට ද පියවර ගෙන ඇත. බන්ධනාගාර තුළ පවතින තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් පැවැති විශේෂ සාකච්ඡාවකදී මෙම තීරණ ගෙන තිබේ. මෙම සාකච්ඡාව සඳහා මහජන ආරක්ෂක අමාත්‍ය ආනන්ද විජේපාල, අධිකරණ අමාත්‍ය හර්ෂණ නානායක්කාර, ආරක්ෂක ලේකම් සම්පත් තුයියකොන්තා, පොලිස්පති ප්‍රියන්ත වීරසූරිය සහ රාජ්‍ය බුද්ධි සේවයේ නිලධාරීන් පිරිසක් සහභාගී වී ඇත. රජයේ ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ නිලධාරියෙකු උපුටා දක්වමින් එම පුවත්පත වාර්තා කරන්නේ, එක් බන්ධනාගාරයක ඇති වන නොසන්සුන්තාවයක් අනෙක් බන්ධනාගාර වෙත පැතිර යාම වැළැක්වීම සඳහා සෑම බන්ධනාගාරයකම විශේෂ සම්බන්ධීකරණ කමිටු පිහිටුවීමට නියමිත බවයි. බන්ධනාගාර දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව, පොලිසිය, සන්නද්ධ හමුදා සහ බුද්ධි අංශ නියෝජිතයන්ගෙන් සමන්විත මෙම කමිටු මගින් තොරතුරු හුවමාරු කර ගනිමින් ආරක්ෂක කටයුතු සම්බන්ධීකරණය කරනු ඇත. බන්ධනාගාර නියාමකවරුන්ගේ පවතින දැඩි හිඟය පියවීම සඳහා මෙම විශ්‍රාමික හමුදා සාමාජිකයන් බඳවා ගැනීම සිදු කරන අතර, තෝරාගන්නා පිරිසට කෙටි කාලීන පුහුණුවක් ලබා දීමෙන් අනතුරුව සේවයේ පිහිටුවීමට නියමිතය. අධිකරණ අමාත්‍යාංශය විසින් මෙම බඳවා ගැනීමේ ක්‍රියාවලිය කඩිනම් කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය පියවර ගනු ඇතැයි ද එම වාර්තාවේ වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් වේ. Government Enlists Retired Military Personnel to Enhance Prison Security Amid Recent Turmoil In response to alarming disturbances reported within the nation’s prisons, the Sri Lankan government has decided to recruit 1,000 retired armed forces members as prison regulators. This significant move is aimed at swiftly addressing issues related to inmate conflicts and maintaining order, as highlighted by the Sunday Times. Alongside this decision, the government is taking proactive measures to establish specialized task force units in all 32 prisons across the country to bolster security within the prison system. This strategic initiative was formed during a key discussion chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, focusing on the current conditions within the correctional facilities. The meeting saw the participation of several high-ranking officials, including Public Security Minister Ananda Viyepala, Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara, Secretary of Defence Kamal Thuyiyakontha, Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya, and various officials from the state intelligence service. A senior government official disclosed to the publication that to prevent unrest in one prison from spilling over into others, it is planned to establish specialized coordination committees within each facility. These committees, comprising representatives from the Department of Prisons, the police, the armed forces, and intelligence agencies, will be tasked with coordinating security measures through effective information sharing. The move to incorporate retired military personnel aims to address the critical shortage of prison regulators, with the selected individuals set to receive brief training before their deployment.
