Participating in a celebration of Indigenous Day under the auspices of Prime Minister Amarasuriya, the leader revealed that, while they had been informed about the preparations for the gazette notification related to the Indigenous Act, its failure to be published thus far is disheartening. He highlighted a troubling trend of losing even the rights they once held, despite signing various agreements. “We met with the Prime Minister and discussed these concerns. They mentioned the gazette was ready, yet, ultimately, we find ourselves back at square one,” he expressed disappointment. During the event, there was an expectation that Ministers of Cultural and Environmental Affairs would engage in discussions regarding the traditional rights and historical issues facing indigenous peoples. However, the leader lamented that only lower-level officials from their respective departments were sent in their place.
