Under the oversight of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, a dedicated audit team has been established to probe these concerns, as confirmed by Manjula Surawirachchi, the parliamentary representative for the district. Allegations have surfaced involving the misuse of funds related to welfare benefits, particularly in the Norwood and Talawakelle divisional secretariats. Surawirachchi highlighted the need to ensure that disaster relief money is appropriately distributed to individuals affected by the adverse weather conditions, particularly those who have suffered due to the recent Dithwa Sulikuna storm. The audit will encompass the distribution of 5,000 rupees in financial assistance extended to low-income beneficiaries during the pandemic as part of a government initiative. Additionally, the assessment will focus on whether social welfare payments and elderly allowances have been disbursed correctly to the designated recipients from 2023 through 2026. Surawirachchi outlined that ten divisional secretariats across the Nuwara Eliya district will be under scrutiny as part of this investigation. He emphasized the importance of beneficiaries providing necessary information to aid in the investigation's commencement.
