The monks asserted that the authority to decide on such a matter rests solely with the larger monastic council, emphasizing the need for a collective approach to address the ongoing issues. This correspondence, sanctioned by the Chief Prelate, was sent to the President with the signature of Venerable Kotapitiye Rahula Anunayake Thero, the society's principal secretary. The letter underlines that any deliberation regarding the retention or removal of Gnanasara Thero's robes must align with the ethical and disciplinary tenets upheld by the monastic community. The society has reiterated its stance that the issue must be formally presented to the judiciary, a position they previously communicated to the General Prison Commissioner; a copy of this notification was also dispatched to the President. Notably, it came to light that on October 8, discussions related to this matter took place involving the President and a group of other senior monks, without the participation of the larger monastic council, as outlined in the letter. Senior monks expressed their concern that the issue remains unresolved, highlighting its sensitivity and broader implications for the entire Buddhist community.
