පොලිස්පතිවරයා සම්බන්ධයෙන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොදුජන පෙරමුණේ ප්‍රධාන ලේකම්, නීතිඥ සාගර කාරියවසම් මහතා සිදුකළ ආන්දෝලනාත්මක ප්‍රකාශයක් සම්බන්ධයෙන් විමර්ශනයක් ආරම්භ කරන ලෙස පොලිස්පතිවරයා විසින් මධ්‍යම අපරාධ විමර්ශන කාර්යාංශයට (CCIB) උපදෙස් දී තිබේ. මාධ්‍ය හමුවකදී සාගර කාරියවසම් මහතා පොලිස් සේවයේ වත්මන් තත්ත්වය සම්බන්ධයෙන් රජයට සහ පොලිස්පතිවරයාට දැඩි චෝදනා එල්ල කර තිබුණි. වත්මන් රජය විසින් පොලිස් සේවය ඉතා අවාසනාවන්ත තත්ත්වයකට පත් කර ඇති බවත්, හිටපු පොලිස්පතිවරුන් තිදෙනෙකුට මෙම රජය යටතේ දැඩි පීඩාවන්ට මුහුණ දීමට සිදුවූ බවත් ඔහු එහිදී ප්‍රකාශ කළේය. රජයට සේවය කිරීම නතර කර ජනතාවට සේවය කරන ලෙස පොලිස්පතිවරයාගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටි ඔහු, වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් දක්වමින් කියා සිටියේ එසේ කිරීමට අපොහොසත් වුවහොත්, "මහමගදී ජනතාවගෙන් පහර කා මියගිය ඉතිහාසයේ 37 වැනි පොලිස්පතිවරයා" බවට ඔහු පත්විය හැකි බවයි. මෙම ප්‍රකාශය සැලකිල්ලට ගනිමින්, ඒ පිළිබඳව වහාම විමර්ශනයක් ආරම්භ කරන ලෙස පොලිස්පතිවරයා විසින් මධ්‍යම අපරාධ විමර්ශන කාර්යාංශයට නියෝග කර ඇත. ඒ අනුව එම කාර්යාංශය විසින් අදාළ ප්‍රකාශය සම්බන්ධයෙන් ඉදිරි විමර්ශන කටයුතු සිදු කරනු ඇත. During a recent media briefing, Kariyawasam launched a scathing attack on the current state of the police service, leveling serious accusations against the government and the Police Chief. He asserted that the police force has been plunged into a lamentable condition under the present government and highlighted that three former police chiefs have faced severe pressures during their tenure in this administration. Kariyawasam urged the Police Chief to shift focus from serving the government to serving the public. He further warned that failing to do so could lead to his potential appointment as the "37th Police Chief to be assaulted and killed by the people on the streets,” referencing a grim historical context.
