Thileepan initiated his hunger strike on September 15, 1987, outside the Kandashwami Temple in Nallur, demanding solutions from the Indian government for issues faced by the Tamil community following the implementation of the Indo-Lanka Accord. His protest consisted of five key demands aimed at alleviating the plight of his people. Without receiving a reasonable response to his demands, Thileepan continued his strike for 12 days, ultimately leading to his tragic death on September 26, 1987, as none of his requests were met.
