SLS සහතිකය ලත්, ප්‍රමිතිගත, ආරක්ෂිත හෙල්මටයක් පැළඳීම අනිවාර්ය බව මාර්ග ආරක්ෂාව පිළිබඳ ජාතික සභාවේ සභාපති මංජුල කුලරත්න මහතා පවසයි. සභාපතිවරයා මේ බව ප්‍රකාශ කළේ රජය විසින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කර ඇති මාර්ග ආරක්ෂාව පිළිබඳ ජාතික සැලැස්මට අනුව ප්‍රවාහනයේ ආරක්ෂාව තහවුරු කිරීමට ගෙන ඇති ක්‍රියාමාර්ග පිළිබඳවත් යතුරුපැදි ධාවනයේදී ආරක්ෂිත හිස්වැසුමක් පැලඳීමේ නෛතිකභාවය පිළිබඳවත් ජනතාව දනුවත් කිරීමේ විශේෂ මාධ්‍ය හමුවට එක්වෙමිනි. එම මාධ්‍ය හමුව කොළඹ 10, ඩී. ආර්. විජේවර්ධන මාවතේ පිහිටි ප්‍රවාහන අමාත්‍යංශයීය ශ්‍රවණාගාරයේ දී පැවැත්විණ. "ප්‍රවාහන, මහාමාර්ග සහ නාගරික සංවර්ධන අමාත්‍යංශය මගින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කර ඇති වසර දෙකක මාර්ග ආරක්ෂණ ක්‍රියාකාරී සැලැස්මට අනුව මාර්ගයේ අනතුරු අවම කර සුරක්ෂිත රිය ධාවනයක් ඇති කිරීම සඳහා ක්‍රියාකාරී සැලසුම් 96 කින් යුත් වැඩ පිළිවෙලක් ආරම්භ කලා. මේ වනවිට ඉන් ක්‍රියාමාර්ග 30 ක් භෞතිකව ක්‍රියාත්මක කර තවදුරටත් ක්ෂේත්‍රයේ ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණයන් සිදුකරමින් සිටිනවා. එක් එක් අංශයන් ආවරණය වන පරිදි මේ ජාතික වැඩපිළිවෙල අඛණ්ඩවම ක්‍රියාත්මක කර මාර්ගයේ ආරක්ෂාව වෙනුවෙන් කටයුතු කරනවා. වසරකට රිය අනතුරු හේතුවෙන් 2.500 කට අධික ජීවිත සංඛ්‍යාවක් රටට, සමාජයට අහිමි වෙනවා. ඉන් දහසකට අධික ප්‍රමාණයක් යතුරු පැදි අනතුරුවලින් සිදුවන මරණ බව වාර්තා වෙනවා. එයින් වැඩිම මරණ සිදුව ඇත්තේ පැදිකරුවන්ගේ හිසට සිදුවූ මාරාන්තික හානිවලින් බව දත්ත අනුව අනාවරණය වී තිබෙනවා. මේ තත්ත්වය අවම කරගැනීමට ප්‍රවාහන, මහාමාර්ග සහ නාගරික සංවර්ධන අමාත්‍යංශයේ මූලිකත්වයෙන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා ප්‍රමිති ආයතනය, ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොලීසිය, පාරිභෝගික කටයුතු පිළිබඳ අධීකාරිය ඒකාබද්ධව විශේෂ ආරක්ෂණ වැඩපිළිවෙලක් ක්‍රියාත්මක කර තිබෙනවා. එබැවින් හෙල්මට් පැලඳීම සම්බන්ධ නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම සඳහා වැටලීම් දිගින් දිගටම ක්‍රියාත්මක කර ජීවිත ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීමටත් සුරක්ෂිත ප්‍රවාහන සේවයක් සඳහාත් කැපවෙනවා. එමෙන් ම ප්‍රමිතිගත හෙල්මට් නිෂ්පාදනය කරන ආයතන දිරිගැන්වීමේ වැඩසටහනක්ද ක්‍රියාත්මක කරනවා." Mandatory Use of Certified Helmets Stressed for Road Safety in Sri Lanka The importance of wearing SLS certified, standardized, and safe helmets has been underscored by the Chairman of the National Council for Road Safety, Manjula Kulathunga. In a media briefing held at the Ministry of Transport's auditorium on D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha in Colombo, Kulathunga highlighted the government's initiatives under the national road safety plan aimed at improving transportation safety. He emphasized the ethical responsibility of riders to wear protective helmets during motorcycle operation. According to the two-year action plan undertaken by the Ministry of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development, a systematic approach has been introduced to minimize road accidents and promote safe driving. This plan encompasses 96 specific projects, of which 30 are currently being actively implemented, alongside further field reforms. The national initiative is designed to continuously enhance road safety across various sectors. The statistics are alarming—over 2,500 lives are lost annually due to road accidents in the country, with more than a thousand fatalities attributed specifically to motorcycle incidents. Data reveals that significant fatalities result from severe head injuries sustained by riders. To tackle this situation, the Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, the Sri Lanka Police, and consumer affairs authorities, has launched a special safety program. This initiative aims to enforce helmet-wearing laws consistently and promote safer transportation services. Additionally, a program to encourage the manufacturing of certified helmets is also in operation, ensuring a commitment to public safety. *Note: In case of any discrepancy between the Sinhala and English versions, the Sinhala version shall prevail.
